First of all, there’s no need for dollar coins at all, if the Treasury adopted my “FREE MONEY!” proposal for putting ads on the dollar bill. But say the powers that be opt for Plan B, switching to dollar coins, to save millions on frequently replacing bills, which wear out more rapidly, then the answer’s almost obvious:
1. Switch George Washington from the quarter to the dollar coin. He’s already a fully accepted symbol of the dollar, being on the bill. Still want to honor underappreciated figures from under-represented groups? Put Martin Luther King, Helen Keller, Sacajawea, Susan B. Anthony and others on the quarter.
2. If that doesn’t work, and I have lots of doubts it would, gotta remove 1s from circulation, the way Canada and other countries have.
